"'Classroom management' means creating systems that support the kind of positive behavior across a classroom. 'Behavior management' is made strategies and systems that will manage and eliminate difficult behaviors that prevent students from succeeding in an academic environment" (about education, 1).
Instructional strategies: Token economy - a reward system for doing work Direct Instruction - working 1:1 with students Cooperative learning - motivating a classroom environment where students grow and learn together
Behavior Management: To respond to student behavior, one strategy I plan to implement is the clothes pin chart, where clothes pins are placed in the middle section at the beginning of the day and are moved dependent on behavior!
To monitor student behavior, teachers can keep a chart with each students name to tally inappropriate behaviors and make notations throughout the day. The clothes pin chart can be used a reference point for student behavior.
Classroom Environment: Positivity is key! Creating a classroom environment where students from all diverse backgrounds can work together and feel comfortable is one of my main goals! A way this can be accomplished is through a strategy called "tootling". It's a play on words of "tattling" but students try to catch their classmates doing kind things and recognize them for it! Rules: 1. Notecards are put in the middle of a group of desks, and a designated jar is made for tootles 2. students should be on the look out for nice things classmates do, whether to themselves or to each other. 3. Student writes the classmates name, what they did, and sign it to put in the jar. 4. tootles are read at the end of the day 5. If a certain number of tootles are submitted, the students can receive a prize (group contingency).
